I had Edith Lawlis as a high school Spanish teacher for two semesters at Greenhill School. As someone who was new in learning the language, she made Spanish a fascinating subject. She has spent a part of her childhood in Mexico, and it shows quite clearly that she is very familiar with the subject. It is one thing just to know the language; however, it is another to know how to teach it. I feel she has both areas down to pat. She was always ready to help any student with questions, and never discouraged any student from approaching her. I remember as a student, I felt free to come to her with my concerns about grammar, writing, and reading. She was one of the more lively teachers I have ever had who taught Spanish.
